Holy oak trees! We can’t believe it’s the TENTH Acorn Enterprise Business Accelerator Programme!
What started off as a discussion over a coffee in June 2013, has lead Acorn Enterprise to helping more than 80 “Acorns” (new businesses) across Fife and Dundee!
We are an organisation on a MISSION to grow the UK’s entrepreneurial culture!
Acorn Enterprise has successfully run 9 Programmes and we help the Acorns to develop: confidence, business skills and clarity.
Over 70% of the Saplings (graduates) are continuing to grow and thrive! You can find out more about some of the Awesome Saplings here!
And if you wanna find out more about the next Programme, join the Waiting List here!
Anyway, let’s stop horsing around (neigh!) and introduce you to the Awesome new Acorns on the 10th Business Accelerator Programme, which is based in the Flour Mill, Dundee!
Ross Lamond – Bug Bakes
I learned about the damaging environmental effects of livestock farming while studying at the University of Glasgow two years ago. I also read that insects provide the exact same quality protein while having a fraction of the environmental impact.
The United Nations have gone on record saying insects are a protein source of the future and urge western countries to adopt it. This gave me the idea to start Bug Bakes – the UK’s first dog treat made with sustainable insect protein!
I look forward to meeting like minded individuals and learning as much as I can while on the Acorn Programme.
Cameron Young – Cameron Young Magic
My name is Cameron Young and I’m the founder of Cammy’s Magic and Cameron Young magic. I am Edinburgh Close-up Magician of the Year 2018.
Over the past 16 years, I have been studying and practicing my art. Now it’s time to make it my living! So far, I have worked worldwide, have over 20 million video views online and I am nearly sold out for weddings next summer.
I aim to learn more about business and how to take my new venture to another level!
Karli Webster – K-Caps
After finishing university, I accidentally fell into the world of the self-employed and started out as a freelance audiovisual translator.
After two years of having permanent contracts, I came to the conclusion that if I knew more about running my own business, I could take the plunge and create one – so I did.
K- Caps provides various audiovisual services – subtitling, proofreading, creation of dub scripts to name a few. At present it is still just me in my office with my computer but with the help of this Programme, I strive to take the necessary steps to grow my business in the coming years.
Michael Lester – New Reality Coaching
Having been depressed and anxious from not living the life he was here to live, Michael went on a journey of personal development and self-discovery to feel better and find truth.
In the process he discovered he wanted to be a personal trainer and share the benefits of good health and fitness with others. After four years of personal training and helping people to transform their health and fitness, he is now following his calling to be a coach.
Michael helps people to live authentically and create the lives they want to live.
Shelley Booth – Shelly Booth Fitness & Train Eat Sleep Repeat
I am a fitness, health and lifestyle consultant specialising in lifestyle advice. I provide fitness, nutrition and health advice and support. In particular, I deliver lifestyle transformation packages from my training facility in Dundee – Train Eat Sleep Repeat.
I also own a CrossFit affiliate, we are CrossFit Dundee.
Shelley has also recently launched ShelleyBoothFitness.com, an online platform to engage people from all over the world in my concept. One that I aim to make a global success!
Katie Reid – Tour Tag
My name is Katie and I’m a managing director and co-founder of a company called Tour Tag.
I LOVE golf! So when I graduated from university last year, it was a no-brainer for me to enter the business world in an industry I’ve been involved with for over 12 years.
So what is Tour Tag? In a nutshell, we’re developing a loyalty app for golfers. Our app allows golfers to earn loyalty points for their rounds and gain access to exclusive rewards and experiences that the golfing industry has to offer.
Caroline Whyte – Link33
Having worked in the creative industry as a freelancer and as an employer, I’ve experienced the difficulties of connecting and collaborating with other creatives!
Link33 is an online platform that aims to make this easier!
The idea behind my business is anyone who works in either gaming, publishing, design, theatre, TV and, film can come together and create a support network where they can find work, search for freelancers, learn and share their knowledge, and collaborate on projects.
I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the Acorn team, I can’t wait to see where this Programme takes me!
