Why did you apply for the Acorn Enterprise Business Accelerator Programme?
I met Kallum and thought it would be a good Programme for me to help nurture, create and grow my business.
As a business owner, how would you describe yourself in three words?
Enthusiastic, Optimistic and Savvy.
What or who motivated you to form your business?
I wanted to be in charge of my own destiny.
How would you describe your business in three words?
Forward-thinking, unconventional, young.
What was the best bit of advice your received on the Business Accelerator Programme?
Set goals and work to achieve them.
How has your business grown since being on the Programme?
It went from an idea to growing in revenue and we are about to become profitable this year.
What are you most proud of about your business?
Minus 33, our product, was featured in the list of the Top 20 Global Innovative Spirits launches in the year we started (2015) and it also received the highest taste score from a leading gin blogger.
What are the three most important things you would tell an aspiring business “Acorn”?
- Work smart.
- Work on educating yourself.
- Ask for help.
What is the most amusing incident that has happened in the history of your business?
We have this trick where we get people to hold cocktail shakers, upside down, over the heads of their friends. 99.9% of the time, it works, this time it didn’t.
The contents of the shaker went all over an unsuspecting victim and the glass part shattered on the floor. We quickly became the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
If you started over, what one thing would you do differently?
I’d have started with a co-founder who had opposing skills and I’d have raised more investment.
Who’s the most famous or interesting character you’ve met whilst running your business?
Sir Tom Hunter or Bob Keiller.
How do you unwind?
Socialising with friends and switching off in front of the tv.
What book would you recommend that every entrepreneur read?
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
