Acorn 3D Printing understands what it's like trying to find or replace a part, prototype new product ideas and make physical scale models, and we can help you whether you already have a design or not.
We are the experts in 3D design and printing and using the awesome power of 3d printing, we can bring your design ideas to life! Click here to find out more about what we can do for you.
A. 3D print yourself a new one, of course!
3D Printing, also called "rapid prototyping" and "additive manufacturing", is simply a process for creating 3D printed objects, typically by layering material in a successive way.
There are many types of 3D Printing, however, the one you may have heard about is "Fused Deposition Modelling" (FDM) and this is the one we use. It works by melting the filament material (usually plastic) and then layering it very quickly and accurately to build up a 3D model of your design - it's almost like using an icing bag to decorate a cake, although we don't recommend you eat 3D printing filament!
We have access to several different 3D Printers and the one we use most often is the Makerbot Replicator 2X, which can 3D print in ABS and PLA plastic - in fact, we're also testing new ABS hybrid materials, such as wood and copper!
We bought some 3D printing kit to help the Awesome Acorns (participants) on our 20 week Business Accelerator Programme as a number of their business ideas were product-based and this allows them to dramatically speed up the product prototyping phase.
As part of our mission to grow Scotland's entrepreneurial culture, being an Acorn on the Programme entitles them to use our 3D printer and scanner for free.
Our Programme is free to the Acorns and as we're a not-for-profit organisation, we run 3D printing workshops and work with other clients to generate revenue, which we re-invest into helping new businesses to grow and thrive.
